CDA is a continually expanding business with many developments and opportunities taking place. We like to keep our staff, clients and supply chain informed of events and changes that take place so they can keep up to date with company progress.

Website

CDA engaged the services of an external consultant (Sitewizard) to assist in a project to deliver a fully interactive web-site. All development works are now concluded and the website became operational at the end of 2006. All representatives of CDA are encouraged to submit ideas, improvements and articles for the site please forward any and all requests to info@cd-associates.com, and for the attention of Sally McGow.

Engagements

George Ritson was welcomed back to CDA during December 2006 to undertake an assignment as Senior Quantity Surveyor at Mitsui-Babcock, Gateshead. George is well known to all at CDA and also throughout the north east construction industry; his varied and international commercial experience is acknowledged as an asset to the CDA organisation and will contribute to service delivery to an important new client. [December 2006].

CDA are very pleased to welcome Laura Tones to the organisation. Laura has been engaged as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor to support our ongoing workscope at David Johnstone. Laura is currently undertaking a BSc (Quantity Surveying) degree course at the University of Northumbria, Newcastle. Laura will continue with her academic studies, and in parallel, gain useful work experience with support provided by the CDA management team. [February 2007].

Colin MacWhirter continues his long standing relationship with CDA by providing commercial and tender support to the increased David Johnstone workscope. [May 2007].

Robert Eglintine joined CDA during May and will provide cost estimating expertise to a major Dutch offshore marine company. Robert will be based in The Netherlands and will be involved in the design and build of a new heavy lift vessel. [May 2007].

Laura Tones has been seconded to Dooson Babcock, Gateshead as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor.  [June 2007].

CDA are pleased to welcome the return of Ian Collinson. Ian has a long term association wth CDA and is well known to most personnel. Ian has been engaged to provide quantity surveying services to a north east ship repair company based on the Tyne. [June 2007].

James Cooper has joined the CDA organisation as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor. James will support our ongoing workscope at Ecohomes and provide assistance to other client contracts. James will combine work experience with his BSc (Quantity Surveying) degree course studies at the University of Northumbria, Newcastle. [September 2007].

Ian Collinson has mobilised to Abu Dhabi and will provide commercial / contract administration services to our client Ad-Yard. [November 2007].

Gordon Byers is to provide support and assistance to CDA whilst it undertakes an estimate validation exercise on behalf of Magnox Electric at a nuclear decommissioning site. [November 2007].

David Back has mobilised to Durban, South Africa to lead and co-ordinate the tender submission for construction of an offshore jacket structure. [November 2007].

John Johnstone is a welcome addition to the CDA organisation. John, who is from South Africa, has relocated with his family to Thurso, Caithnness. He will be providing contact management services at the UK Atomic Energy Authority Dounreay site. [December 2007].

Christopher Nicholson has been engaged by Seadrill Engineering [Norway] providing variation control management services at a project office in Bergen. [January 2008].

Stewart Allison has mobilised to Rosenberg Verft AS [Norway] as a Project Control Engineer providing support to estimating, re-measurement, business management and planning functions. [January 2008].

David Back has been engaged by AMEC Natural Resources via CDA to undertake a commercial management role in Kuwait. [January 2008].

David O'Dair has been mobilised to perform a contract review of a recent groundwork project undertaken by CDA client David Johnstone [January 2008].

George Ritson has been engaged by Rosenberg Verft AS [Norway] as a Project Control Engineer [January 2008].

Phil Catterall, who joined CDA in February 2008, has been seconded to Balfour Beatty Management to undertake a shutdown assignment in The Netherlands. [February 2008].

Ian Collinson has joined Christopher Nicholson at Seadrill Engineering [Norway] providing providing quantity measurement services at their project office in Bergen. [March 2008].

Mark Mason has been engaged by a North East based marine engineering company via CDA as a Contract Engineer. [May 2008].

James Cooper has been seconded to Dooson Babcock, Gateshead as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor. James will work alongside existing members of the existing commercial team involved in nuclear decommissioning activities. [May 2008].

Simon Taylor joined CDA and is currently on assignment in the Netherlands performing a lead workscope measurement function. [September 2008]

CDA are pleased to announce that Eddie Hume has commenced his assignment with a nuclear contracting organisation based in Germany, regarding an existing CDA contract supporting the build of a nuclear power station in Lithuania. [October 2008].

CDA welcome Sally McGow who has joined CDA with responsibility for all administrative matters in connection with the business. [October 2008].

Michael McDonald is presently undertaking quantity surveying duties on an FPSO project located in Dubai. [November 2008]

CDA welcomes James Cooper who has joined CDA to assist John Cook, CDA's Managing Director. [August 2009]

CDA is pleased to announce that Christopher Nicholson has commenced his assignment with a nuclear contracting organisation in Germany, but based in Lithuania. [December 2009]

CDA is pleased to announce that Steve Irwin has commenced his assignment with a major pipe producing and laying company based in Germany [June 2010] 

CDA's New Venture

CDA has recently taken over the business of Hornby McCann based at The Old Passenger Station, Milby, Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire.  Pictured is Simon Taylor who has taken over the daily running of the office and will be supported by John Cook and James Cooper.  We look forward to a long and rewarding venture supporting developers, architects and builders in Yorkshire.  The location also enables CDA to further expand its petrochem work into the Humberside region.

New Accounts

CDA were engaged to undertake 2 contractual claims during December 2006. Both are ongoing and will be performed via the existing corporate management team based at the St. James Street office. Support works continue to be provided to David Johnstone (Morpeth based civil engineering contractor). [December 2006].

The successful compilation of a tender by CDA staff has resulted in David Johnstone securing new workcope for a new housing development in Berwick Upon Tweed, CDA have been retained to provide post contract commercial services. [January 2007]. 

CDA have received confimation that the existing service provision at Chapelcross power station, Annan, providing estimating and commercial support to Magnox Electric, has been extended for at least another 6 months. Our continued involvement at this facility reflects highly on the consistent and valued contribution made by our representatives for a considerable period of time, Philip Peeke-Vout and Gordon Byers are commended for their ongoing commitment and diligence displayed whilst performing their duties. [March 2007].

CDA have received confimation that our representative deployed at Seadrill has been extended for a further 12 months. Chris Weafer is about to complete his first year in Bergen as Quantity Measurement Lead based in Bergen, Norway. Chris is to be congratulated for his extremely hard work and application to date which has facilitated this contract extension. [March 2007].

CDA continue to provide commercial and contractual services to Unasys, a project management completions service provider. [May 2007].

Following pre-qualification acceptance and a tender submission regarding the provision of "contract management and procurement personnel" associated with the ongoing and accelerated decommissioning programmes at Dounreay, Caithness, CDA have been awarded a 3 year framework agreement with the UK Atomic Energy Authority for service provision. This is a significant achievement for all CDA personnel involved in this activity, valuable experience gained via our ongoing service provision within the nuclear field was applied extensively thus, ensuring CDA successfully competed against six potential contractors. [May 2007].

Heerema Holland have engaged the services of Robert Eglintine via CDA to perform cost estimating services in The Netherlands. [May 2007].

CDA are to provide quantity surveying / commercial services to a major north east ship repair company based on the River Tyne. [June 2007].

CDA have been engaged by B&C Interiors, Sunderland, to provide commercial services associated with recovery and settlement of a disputed final account circa £1,500,000. Service provision will be executed via the corporate management team based at the St. James Street office. [July 2007].

Several hundred pipework isometric drawings were remeasured off-site by CDA within 3 days of receipt of original instruction, this was to aid compilation of a tender target cost estimate on behalf of R Blackett Charlton. CDA mobilised several personnel at short notice to execute this task. [August 2007].

CDA have compiled a tender price estimate on behalf of Ecohomes, this relates to the design and build of several environmentally and sustainable house dwellings in the North East of England. [August 2007].

CDA continue to provide tender estimate support to Ecohomes. [September 2007].

CDA have been engaged to provide commercial management and estimating support services at a Magnox Electric nuclear decommissioning site. [September 2007].

CDA have been engaged to review and assess contractual claim entiutlement on behalf of Punj Lloyd (India) associated with a jacket and piles for 3 Nr wellhead platforms. [January 2008].

CDA have completed a loss and expense contractual claim on behalf of Trendgrey Construction, Coventry. [January 2008].

CDA have been retained by Punj Lloyd (India) to continue contractual claim support services. [April 2008].

CDA have been engaged to provide commercial support to NUKEM Technologies GMBH, Germany. [July 2008].

CDA have been engaged to provide commercial management services to a contracting organisation involved in the construction of the new Doha International Airport, Qatar. [October 2008].

CDA have been engaged to provide commercial management services to a contracting organisation involved in the oil/gas industry in Yemen.  [June 2009]

CDA have been engaged to provide commercial support services to a marine construction company based in Singapore. [August 2009]

CDA have been engaged to provide commercial management services to a contracting organisation involved in the oil/gas industry in India involved in the construction of oil tanks.  [November 2009] 

Future Opprtunities

We anticipate opportunities in the Autumn of 2010 in the Middle East, London and Aberdeen in the Oil and Gas sector so would be interested in receiving CV's from any personnel who would like to be considered for any of these vacancies

Proposals

CDA are receiving notable interest from clients, both nationally and internationally, engaged in all aspects of construction. Recent enquiries for provision of personnel have originated from Japan, Korea, Australia, Norway, Kuwait and United Arab Emirates. CDA continue to work and develop both clients and supply chain with the objective of attaining "an employer of choice" status. [February 2007].

CDA have compiled a tender associated with a 3 year framework agreement for the provision of Quantity Surveying services to South Yorkshire Police Authority. [August 2007].

CDA have compiled tender in conjunction with Consolidated Gulf Company [Qatar]. Service provision is for measurement of surface areas of offshore platforms Maydan Mahzan and Bul Hanine for Qatar Petroleum. [October 2007].

CDA have responded to a request by Babcock Design & Technology [Marine Defence Contractor] to provide outline proposals for provision of quantity surveying, cost control, contract management services in connection with a 3 year marine conversion project. [October 2007].

CDA have pre-qualified for a 3 year framework agreement for provision of cost Consultancy Services for National Grid Property Ltd. [December 2007].

CD Group shifts into Top Gear!

The CD Group (CDA parent company) recently announced it's sponsorship of Newcastle Racing, the Formula Student Team from Newcastle University, Chris Davidson, the team manager, said "The £1,000 contribution from the CD Group will allow us to develop the car even further and help us find those few extra seconds of pace!" CD Group sees the sponsorship as an investment in the engineering talent of the future and the company is hoping to recruit more graduates this summer in order to bolster its engineering department. Peter Douglass (CD Group Managing Director) is pictured presenting the cheque to members of the team. [March 2007].

CDA Sponsored Golf Day

CDA was one of several sponsors for a charity Golf Day in connection with Magnox North where our consultant, Philip Peeke-Vout, has been deployed for some time.  The golf was played at Powfoot Golf Club in Dumfries and, for once, the British summer provided a bright and sunny day!  Each team was asked to nominate a charity and at the prize giving a random draw was made from the entries and the Great North Air Ambulance was selected.  The amount raised on the day was £960.  Pictured are John Cook, CDA's Managing Director and Philip Peeke-Vout prior to tee-off.

Staff news

CDA and staff wish their long term colleague Gordon Byers a speedy recovery from a recent health issue. Gordon and his family are constantly in our thoughts. We all hope to see him back to work very soon. [June 2007].

CDA and CD Group are presently providing work experience to an undergraduate of the University of Northumbria. Mazin (Maz) Alkabiba. Maz, a citizen of Saudi Arabia, has just completed his first year BA (Hons) Human Resource Management degree course, sponsored by Saudi Aramco. He has provided invaluable help particularly to CDA in respect of online recruitment publications and system processes. [June 2007].

CDA and CD Group were the subject of a newspaper article focusing on a review of the North of England Marine and Offshore industry. The article appeared in the local Newcastle based newspaper "The Journal" on Tuesday 18th September 2007, pages 30 and 35. [September 2007].
