K of Buckinghamshire
This help request reached us via Connection of High Wycombe. They are a registered charity that provides a variety of support services for vulnerable people across Buckinghamshire and are funded by their local authority.
K was 23 years old with a 2-year old toddler T.
K lives with depression and learning difficulties and needed support to begin independent living and cope with motherhood.
T has been in and out of hospital with various problems since she was born and this, plus an unstable housing situation, made things even worse for her and K.
K had just been given her first permanent tenancy and was struggling to buy the things she needed to set up home including a washer dryer and carpets and floor coverings throughout the house.
We asked Connection to seek help elsewhere for the washer/dryer, as they had indicated would be possible, because the machine would have been more advantage to K than to T and would not come within our purpose of helping disadvantaged children first,
However, we provided the £1,040 to cover the cost of carpets and other floor coverings for the lounge, stairs, landing, bathroom, kitchen and toilet. These things were vital for the interests and health of little T firstly and to her mum secondarily.
