Silver Cloud II 1960

  • 4 Seater - Saloon
  • Ivory White
  • Black Interior

Silver Cloud 2

Our Immaculate Silver Cloud II Rolls Royce is a very rare car, the Silver Cloud model was the last traditionally built vehicle by Rolls Royce prior to the Silver Shadow's in the 1960's. This particular car was in the British Museum in Hong Kong for a number of years and was shipped back to the UK when Hong Kong went back to China.

The Cloud II retained the same body as the Cloud I but was powered by a completely new V8 engine of 6230 cc with a compression ratio of 8:1. Self-adjusting hydraulic tappets were used, and the engine was all aluminium but with cast iron wet liners. Twin 1¾" SU carburettors were used with automatic choke.
SCII - 2116 were produced and S2 - 1922 and 388 Continentals.

When the improved Silver Cloud II was launched in September 1959, Rolls-Royce underplayed the fact of the new V8 engine, but word soon got about. Reviews in The Autocar and The Motor were both highly complimentary and the combination of a new technology image, a strong domestic economy and buoyant export sales meant that the Silver Cloud family began to sell even better than before. In the three years broadly from the summer of 1959 to the summer of 1962 a total of 4,403 standard steel-bodied cars were delivered, or just over 30 cars a week. This may not sound much compared to mass-produced outputs, but this was an all time record for Rolls-Royce.

The other cars in the same price range in September 1959 were:

  • Daimler Majestic Major £2,995
  • Bristol 406 £4,244
  • Cadillac Fleetwood saloon £5,186
  • Mercedes-Benz 300 £5,222
  • Bentley S2 saloon £5,661
  • Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II £5,802

Rolls Royce Silver Cloud III - 1964

  • Ivory White
  • 4 Seater saloon

Silver Cloud 3

These cars have the same basic body shell as previous Clouds I and 2 but the bonnet line was lowered and twin headlamps fitted. Engine power was increased and the maximum speed was given as 117 mph.

Total built: SCIII - 2376 of which 79 were coachbuilt and S3 - 1630, 312 of these were Continentals.
