Lukestone EMI Nursing Home is a partly purpose built home on three floors and opened in April 04. It is situated in Maidstone, Kent, known as The Garden of England. We are within walking distance of a regular train service to London, Ashford, Canterbury, and Tonbridge. The local new shopping centre was opened in 2006, known as Fremlin Walk, and is situated very close to the River Medway. You can also enjoy a day out at the designer outlet in Ashford, or visit the Cathedral in Canterbury. There is access to a hotel opposite the Home, local churches, taxi services and five minutes walk to local bus service. Our Home has been specifically designed to provide a safe and secure environment for our 44 residents. The Home has 40 single en-suite rooms and two shared rooms. Each bedroom is tastefully decorated and furnished to a high standard, has provision for television and also a nurse call system. Families are encouraged to personalise their room with family photographs and furniture. The aim of the staff at Lukestone is to provide a high quality standard of tranquilizer free care, in very comfortable homely surroundings. All residents are seen as individuals in their own right and the care offered is designed to optimise and maintain the quality of life for elderly people with long-term mental health problems. All residents are involved, as far as possible, in their own care and in the running of their home. They are also encouraged to make the best use of their present skills and abilities, pursue their interests and engage in activities that they enjoy. |

All birthdays are celebrated and their day made special. We have many events throughout the year. Our biggest is the Christmas Party with professional entertainment. Summer trips are arranged for those residents able to participate, the latest being a boat trip and there are planned trips to Leeds Castle, The Friars at Aylesford and the seaside. The activities for our residents include arts and crafts where cards and props are made for all occasions, reminiscence, keep fit, music, board games, ball exercises and bingo, spending quality time with bed bound residents. We offer a silver service lunch either in the lounge or on the patio in the summer for a small group of residents each Friday with a choice of menu or alternatively a pub lunch. Relatives are invited to share in this lunch if their loved ones are included. We make full use of the garden facilities in the summer with gardening projects. Also daily activities are taken into the garden with the occasional bar-b-que. We pride ourselves on the existing warm friendly atmosphere between staff and residents' families, and encourage families and friends to take part as much as possible in making the residents feel at home. Each resident has a named key worker who is responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of a mutually holistic agreed plan of care. Families are encouraged to participate in the care of their loved ones if they so wish. Open door management is available to our staff and families to discuss any issues or problems encountered. Lukestone is managed by Paula Persaud, an experienced nurse. Paula is committed to providing a conducive learning environment for all staff in the Home. Bi-monthly supervisions are conducted for all staff. Training analysis need is carried out to meet the needs of the individual in the provision of quality care. |
